Earlier this year the Provibers submitted a proposal for KAPOW – Bellingham’s annual Placemaking Competition.
Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people’s health, happiness, and well being. Placemaking is both a process and a philosophy.
The project: The Uuntzbrella – a public, coin-operated, all-weather, dance floor
On April 21, after an evening of amazing ideas and presentations by Bellingham’s local community, the Uuntzbrella won the People’s Choice Award in true Proviber fashion: topping off the evening with a giant dance party which quickly propagated, enlivened and took over the crowd in the Mount Baker theatre.
What this means: The City of Bellingham holds seed funding for this project to go forward and will support the Provibers in securing additional funds to make the Uuntzbrella a reality!!
